hello supportteam,

i'm doing a project at university and we have to work with ansys 17.2.

because there is no chance to get access to the computers on weekends, we are looking for a solution to work from home. we tried the newest ansys-version but cannot open the project from a "future version".
so, with some help from here, we fond a way to download the ansys version 17.2, but there seems to be a license problem.

kind and thankful regards

eric

Hi Eric,

I am currently in a similar situation to yourself. Here is a thread where I found a link to the zip folder to download v17.2. The license file, is however, expired so that's the next thing to deal with.

Ok Support Team,

I tried that way, but I dont have a student.lic file in any of my directories.
I tried it with the license-manager a well, but this didnt seem to help anyway.

we'll hopefully get some more help over here.
thank you!

kind regards,

eric

Eric,

The student.lic is the file that you should get from the new installation package.

There is a more detailed steps described here on how to 'renew' the license file

Thanks,

Win

Hello win,

I need to use the version 17.2. i used the download given by vganor (admin) (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YvutjFLAInya63YeL2AojT_mukKMqJnu).
but during the installation the programm asks me for some license-stuff (ports and so on) but even if I "skip this step" there is no "student.lic" file in the new "shared files" folder.

im able to locate the one from a new version and copy it, but the older version seems to work in a different way.

i guess, that the license is somewhere else in the given version (im not even sure, if the given link installed the student-version)

you can see the "shared files\licensing" directory in the pitcure (after installing the older version an there is no student.lic file to replace.

i tried your advises from another link and thats the results

thank you for your responses.

kind regards, eric

What if you try setting this environment variable (either user or systems level)

ANSYSLMD_LICENSE_FILE=D:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\student.lic

this is assuming that you moved the student.lic to that path.

Thanks,

Win

Eric,

That's it ! That's great news ! Glad it works for you now. Could you mark the thread as resolved ('Is Solution') , so people know there is a resolution here ?

Also, thanks for sharing the video, I didn't know we have one. I started joining the forum way after 17.2.

Thanks,

Win
