Ansys Mesh Creation

Hello,

I am new to Ansys and i am experimenting with structural analysis. I am doing an MSc in Palaeontology. I have downloaded a CT model of a lion and i am trying to import the model in Ansys so i can perform a Finite Element Analysis. I have tried to edit the model in SpaceClaim. So when i mesh in SpaceClaim i get the following message: "Cannot retrieve edges". In static structural editor when i try to generate mesh it says "mesh generation did not complete due to poor quality of elements or incorrect input. Try meshing with another method or different mesh options".

So i suppose there is a way to repair this in SpaceClaim. I tried auto fix but didnt work.

I also tried some methods in repair tab but i always got the message no area found.

I cannot upload the stl file but i can paste the link to download it. http://digimorph.org/specimens/Panthera_leo/adult/

Next to the picture on the right there is a sign Download data where you can download the stl file.

Thank you in advance

Interesting use case! I have seen these types of analyses done on human body parts, but Panthera leo is the first time I am seeing!

Anyways, Ansys employees can not download anything from the community or the links, but I can suggest trying some cleanup operations in the SpaceClaim.

Sample videos are here, note those can be for another purpose, but the procedure for cleanup should be more or less similar:

And by the way, the repair tab is not intended to use on a faceted geometry, you should instead use the facets tab for the same.

Hello Aniket,

Thanks for your reply,

Well i replaced the lion skull with a badger skull (simpler geometry, that was my thought), when i hit check facets i get the message not geometry problems were found, so i think everything is ok.

When i try to mess though i get the message cannot retrieve edges.

Do you have any ideas concering this topic?

Thank you again for your time

Angelos, please check the attached videos and try to simplify the geometry using shrinkwrap and other tools in the facets.
