Hi What is Inflation in meshing and why it is used in FEA?

Inflation means building the mesh from an identified boundary using thin layers of elements and growing the thickness of the element as the distance away from the boundary is increased. It is very useful in CFD models to help resolve the boundary layer velocity profile at a wall. Here is one example.

The mesh control can also be used in Structural models as shown by this example to have sufficient nodes for a contact definition.
