Bonded contact between a small batten plate to double angle members

Hi All,

Please see below! if i  choose to have a bonded contact between the red plate and the two blue double angles. But in actuality the contact is between the underside surface of the red plate and the blue surfaces.   

1. Would it yield different results which i way i model it (generic selection vs actual )?

2. Does Ansys look at the surfaces that are in contact only with each other and ignore the rest?

It shouldn't matter as long as the contact is established. Use the contact tool to understand if they will beforehand. Please see this discussion.

If you don't think the whole body is going to come into contact, why account for all surfaces? Just select the surfaces that you know will come into contact. Mechanical puts contact and target elements on the faces you select so by selecting the whole body you are just making it computationally expensive.

1. The reason  why I asked that question is rather for me selecting that bottom surface of the nearly 30 red small plate by rotating the truss, then selecting the bottom surface. I thought i would just select the solid red member without compromising the results.

2. is there a way to do it in a group fashion? Meaning to select one red plate bottom surface, then have ansys in a group fashion select bottom surface of all the other small plates in the model, then apply this bonded contact individually for each. I have many members and i don't want to spend the time to do individually for each one if i can do it in a group fashion. 

3. You stated in the other post "one of the advantages of having a worksheet view is you can easily modify your selection of contact regions in the Worksheet ". What do you mean by a worksheet view or where is it?
