Hello,

I am doing simulations with porous medium. I am not able to understand difference between superficial and physical velocity formulations. Is there any document or material that can explain difference between these two formulations.

Thank you.

Superficial: is pretty simple and old approach as all loss correlations are based on that. Superficial velocity is conserved over the porous zone. With that approach you won't see any jump in the velocity.

Physical: You still to provide inertial and viscous losses in terms of superficial velocities but now you will see a velocity increase across the porous zone.

Please have a look into the Fluent User's Guide. It describes both approaches.

Best regards,

Amine

Hi Amine,

Thank you for response. I found Fluent user guide 2013 online. Is there any later version available online. I am using FLUENT 19.2 for simulations.

Whereever you are in Fluent but F1.
