Dynamic frictional formulation for the coefficient of friction

Hi,

I know Ansys allows using a dynamic frictional formulation for the coefficient of friction in Explicit Dynamics models, is it possible to use this formulation for the friction coefficient in static structual models too?

I mean can i use the triad:  friction coefficient ,dynamic coefficient of friction, exponential decay coefficient  to define friction for a contact pair in a static structual model?

Thanks

You could take a look at friction options offered by CONTA174. You would likely have to insert a command snippet to access it.

Kind regards,

Jason

Thanks for the swift reply.

I did have a look at the options you linked, you are right ,command snippet is propably the way.

Still if anyone knows a way to do this through the GUI in workbench like you can with explicit dynamic models please let me know , I don't really feel comfortable writing my own friction law snippet yet

Give APDL script a try. Start out with a simple model with known solution, you can then troubleshoot your script to gain confidence.

For your specific problem, the snippet is entered at the frictional contact. Note the dynamic friction value (MU) is entered:

Next, the content of the snippet itself:

et, cid, 174
mycid = cid
rmodif, cid, 21, 4.555, 0.11729

RMODIF help describes the real constants of #21 and the next one #22 of CONTA174 as respectively Static/dynamic ratio and Exponential decay coefficient.

Kind regards,
Jason
