Element birth and death strain free

Hello,

I am using the element birth and death technique for my simulation.  Is there a code to add to APDL when turning the selected elements back on such that they are strain free?  I have an initial stress with them in the alive command, but the resulting stress pattern is slightly off, and I believe it is due to the strain in the elements from being removed and then added back in next to elements that already have a stress pattern.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jarrett

Hi Jarrett,

I'm no expert in element birth and death, but maybe the INISTATE command can be used.

Peter

Hi Jarrett,

According to the manual, when an element is reactivated, its stiffness, mass, element loads, etc. return to their full original values. Elements are reactivated having no record of strain history (or heat storage, etc.).

Sandeep
