Fluent: Fluctuating Inlet for DNS

I am simulating a nozzle with a throat Re of 3500. I have the resources to directly resolve the jet breakdown after the nozzle but I need fluctuating inflow BCs to get physically realistic results.

I know there are fluctuating inflow BCs for LES but can't figure out how to use fluctuating inflow BCs when directly solving navier-stokes.

Using the built-in turbulence generation features from LES would be nice as otherwise I need to write my own udf.

If anyone has suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Just use LES and set the Smagorinsky constant to zero. The computational cost of DNS is very high, even at low Reynolds numbers.

I like the idea of setting the Smagorinsky constant to zero but when I tried this for just a simple pipe flow I did not get the same results using LES with constant=0 and using the laminar solver.

Any ideas why this might be?
