Force in a coil

 Hi guys,

I am trying to evaluate the forces that a solenoid is subject to when flowing a current through it.

I basically modeled the solenoid as a cylinder with a specific thickness, and the current is making flow through the section of the solenoid.

Now it comes the problem. I am trying to evaluate the force, by simply adding the Maxwell parameter and also evaluating the JxB in the calculator and integrating the components along the entire volume.

What I obtain is basically a low force as being a symmetric system the integral should give zero. 

I am more interested in the local forces, for example along the height in order to have a better understanding of the force.

Does anyone know a tool that allows me to have local values for the forces?

Lorentz force is not appropriate for steel.  It is valid only for current carrying conductors (coil) with permeability = 1.

In the case of a solenoid, be sure to derive the correct scalar component (vertical comp such as z).  Other components on entire 360deg coil may cancel out and be very small due to symmetry.

You can plot local force density components (N/m2 or N/m3) but not force (N) on an object.  Total force (N) is reported as numerical value for an entire object.

therefore in case of steel the best way of computing forces should be using the "Force parameter" in Maxwell? May I ask you why for steel is not appropriate?

I am telling you this because I am solving in parallel a problem where I am evaluating the forces that arise in the steel due to the interaction between eddy current-induced and magnetic field.

Regarding the solenoid, yes what I observe is that some components are very small due to the symmetry and I was wondering if there was a way of plotting the volumetric density forces along the z-axis.
