Hi all, I hace a part my friend has 3D scanned and has sent me the image in the form of an STL file. I want to be able to modify the component. but  currently it is imported as a mesh type (obviously).

I've tried following some tutorials online but I am having some trouble working with the geometry I currently have.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this and point me in the right direction?

I have attatched the STL file (Gearbox mount).

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thank you

Ryan.

What version of ANSYS are you using?

Student or other type of license?

What units are the data in the STL file?  Inches, mm?

The way to use this file is as a template to create real solids from scratch while using the STL facets to help size the features.

Here is the facet body...Create a Plane then use the Tools > Extract Curves tool to get this...

You can sketch over those rough shapes to make surfaces that can be pulled into solids and then worked on from another angle.
