Hello -

I am a new user and I'd like to keep the graphics window from being on autohide.  I always need to click on the "graphics" button on the far right side to make the graphics window re-appear.  Or, is there a way to undock the graphics window to keep it open?

If you put %appdata% into the search in File Manager you want to then remove (or rename) the ansys folder that comes up in the results.

hi  Sandeep

Can you please explain how and where you reset    %appdata%\ansys

which directory? do you replace any line in a file? if so which file?

will you please show the steps involved?

I have problem docking the tree outline, graphics and detail view windows

there are three blue ribbons with Tree Outline Only one showing the coordinate planes

thank you

Hello,

As Sandeep mentioned, you can always manipulate graphics window and also reset layout.

But why do you want to manipulate graphics window? Is there any specific reason that default layout is not working?

Keyur

I know what you mean, it looks to me that you might have undocked and set different dock targets, something like this:

Typically when this happens, pinning everything back in or using the reset layout fixes all tabs for me. If reset layout isn't working for you please try removing/renaming the appdata as I previously mentioned.

I don't think I am explaining myself clearly.  It's not the outline window that is the problem, it is the graphics window.  That one seems to behave separately from the outline window.  How can I manipulate just the graphics window? Can it be undocked? What if I want to move the graphics window to the left side of the screen? I can make the graphics window large or small, but I cannot move it freely.

I see what you are saying:

When you click on the pin, it should toggle between the Autohide modes:

Can you try double clicking on the little blue bar that says Outline. I just tried that and it docked the window for me.

If this doesn't work, go to Workbench and try 'Reset Workspace' and 'Reset Window Layout', then re-start WB and see if this fixes it?

It that doesn't work as well and if you are using Windows, close WB, open up file explorer and reset your appdata:

%appdata%\ansys

and rename the folder of the version you are using, looks like v191 to v191.old

Hopefully, this fixes the problem.

Are you looking at the pin on the "outline" menu?  I can see how to move that window have it docked/undocked.

I cannot grab/select the blue ribbon of the graphics window.  I just tried resetting the layout.  You can see that the outline window is there with the pin button.  I must click on the graphics button to have the graphics window re-appear.  But if I do that, it does appear, but let's say I then click out of that window and into some region of the outline window, the graphics window goes away.

First dock it, Click and hold on the Outline bar. That should give you a small circle and 4 arrows as seen in the figure. Move your mouse and drop it on the top one or one of the 4? I see a pin in the image you posted? Does it disappear? Did you already try reset layout?

That's part of the problem...I do not see that small pin icon.

I see that your window is undocked? Make sure that it is docked and pinned as shown:

I am using Workbench and I am trying to perform a static structural analysis.  If I click outside of the graphics window, the window goes away and I need to click on the button ("graphics") on the far right side.

How do I keep the graphics window up (active) always?

What application are you using? Is it mechanical? If so, you can always reset your layout if something has changed.
