How to identify "face thread" of interface cells in a VOF analysis?

Hello,

I am doing a VOF simulation with liquid and vapor. The two phases are separated by interface, which is spread over few cells.

Now, I want to identify liquid cells (F_C0, THREAD_T0) adjacent to the interface, so that I want to apply some source terms in these liquid cells.

To do so, I need to find the "face thread" of the interface cells.

I request anyone to let me know how to do this?

You need to identify interfacial cells through cell loop and the you might identify related faces and face threads. I will rather use a source term weighed by area density which is only non zero at interface.

Hello Amine,

If I apply source terms at the interface, then:

1) what if the interface is spread over three to four cell layers

2) what if the interface is contained within a cell layer?    How to achieve this to happen? Does gradient adaptation helps?

That can happen especially if you are diffuse algorithms and underresolved. Here you need to distribute the source term.

That us why better to weight the source term by interfacial area and you Do not need to identify and interfacial cells or threads.

In a VOF simulation, is the interfacial area density estimated by Gradient of Volume fraction?

Yes.

Regarding weighting: find a way to distribute the source terms across interfacial cells. As I wrote: I will go with the interfacial area density approach.
