Meshing for FSI

Hi everyone,

I have a geometrie (bifurcating blood vessel) of a wall and fluid domain for a FSI simulation.
At the moment i mesh the model using matlab or the meshing component in transient mechanical. Similarly I mesh my fluid domain in Fluent meshing or the workbench module in the Fluent workflow. My simulation works but it is sometimes unstable using more 'exotic' boundary conditions. I think one of the reasons is that both meshes were not conformal, thus elements on the FSI-interface are not the same. Therefore I would like to improve the mesh and especially the interface between both the solid and fluid model.

I was wondering if there is a way to create both the fluid and solid mesh in the same Ansys component, instead of using two seperate ones. Someone knows if this is possible?

you can create mesh for solid and fluid in same mesh component for usual problems. but i think for fsi, you can not create it in same component. 

what you can do is - 

use ansys meshing. 

give same size controls in both mesh components so that interface will have similar mesh.

I tried before to set mesh characteristics on both surfaces equal, but still both meshes were not perfectly (and sometimes far from) conformal.

Do you happen to know if a perfect conformal mesh matters for the stabillity of the model? Does it transfer forces and displacements using nodes or via interpolating between points and than transferring information to the other component?
In other words what is the theoretical background between the data transfers in system coupling?

it does not need exact same mesh. try to have similar resolution for mesh.
