Can someone share a tutorial of how to run ANSYS-HFSS on a High Performance computing (HPC) machine. Please note that the HPC I am using runs on a linux background. I cannot find any graphical user interface. So i have to use command line. Can someone please share  a tutorial of how to run a simple design on the linux based HPC?

Thanks in advance

Moved to the Electromagnetics thread and added a tag so that this questions might get more traction.

Okay thank you. I will create a thread over there as well.

Hi asimghalib,

This is very well documented in HFSS help. Please look there.

Thanks,

Aman

Actually I have checked that and based on it i was able to start a simulation. The simulation is of a normal dipole antenna and on a normal PC it takes one to two minutes for completion. when i run the same file on HPC, it has took more than 10 hours, but still the simulation is running. its not giving any error but it should not take so much time. i dont know what is the problem...

Secondly how can we check the different results like S parameters and radiation pattern or can i copy the simulation file from the HPC and then observe the results in the Graphical user interface...

If you paste (or attach) your simulation log here, I may be able to tell what's taking so long.

About second thing, as you said before, you have to use command line, you will have to transfer result files to your computer and view through GUI. I believe Ansys will not allow anyone to view results without checking out a GUI license.

I have attached the simulation file (to the post) and the screen shots of the batch files and the output file. The simulation is still running and not completingover here

Hi asimghalib,

You are not specifying "-ng" flag. So it is trying to open GUI. Also, I see that you are not enabling HPC mode for your simulations. Or specifying machine list or number of cores etc.

I will repeat: Please go through the HFSS help thoroughly. All these things are already well documented there!

Also you need to load the MPI module on your slurm cluster ("module av" to check which MPI architecture is available). They are not usually loaded automatically.

Let me know if you don't understand anything from the documentation.

Thanks,

Aman

Hi Aman

Okay thank you.. let me go through the ANSYS documentation. I am new user in Linux and not familiar with it. There is alot of documentation in the ANSYS help. So i get confused normally as I am not used to it... Can you please share few links from the ANSYS documentation, it can help me alot.

By the way thank you Aman. I really appreciate your help
