Two skin Layers in top of each other

Hi,

I am trying to create two layers of skins on top of each other around a wing of an airplane. When I mesh the model, the internal layer comes out through the outer layer. See attached images. Is there any way to resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Bashir

Bashir,

Can you post a zoomed in image of just the geometries? I realize you have done it in the first figure but the mesh in the last figure seems to be penetrating through the side as well, Is it? It just doesn't look like same overall geometry.

Also, what kind of meshing controls are you using? It would be helpful to see some snapshots of that. What kind of Size Functions and settings are being used?

Regards,

Sandeep

Hello Sandeep,

Please see the attached for updated images regarding my issue. Using small element size might helps but will take so long to run the model which I don't need to because I have to do multiple runs for each model.

Bashir,

You don't really have any Mesh controls in there and you are dealing with a fairly complicated geometry. You would probably have to do this part by part. Please refer to the following resources and try some of the techniques they discuss:

Hope this helps, let us know?

Hi Sandeep,

I have to recreate model for different structures. It seems that I was able to mesh two structures only. For some reason I am unable to mesh the model successfully anymore. I even tried to do different meshing methods but still facing the issue that internal layer of shell intersects with external layer of shell in trailing edge side only. Any suggestion please?

Thanks,

Bashir

Bashir,

What are the newer settings you are using? can you elaborate? A few snapshots of your settings will be helpful.

Sandeep

Sandeep,

I tried to use all three different Meshing methods, Quadrilateral Dominant, Triangles, and MultiZone Quad/tri,  but non of them has given me the proper mesh. Please see the attached pdf file for the correct mesh of one of developed models and the other model that keeps failing to generate the right mesh. However, the model that generates the correct mesh in the attached file created with simple meshing set up without defining any mesh method. Do you expect the issue with geometry or the way that mesh was setup?

Thanks,

Bashir

Bashir,

In your model, you are only using the Global Mesh Controls and not making use of the local mesh controls. You can do so by right-clicking and inserting these controls:

As an example, I've done the same for a simple Airfoil bod that I created using Path Independent Meshing for a simple airfoil shape I created.

Then, I inserted a small body sizing for just the edge:

As you can see you can clearly capture very fine details as well.

Please note that meshing in ANSYS is very powerful, so please spend time on the tutorials and help we have in the documentation.

Sandeep

Also, please note that we have 4 additional videos on the ANSYS How to Videos channel on Meshing and I noticed that it discusses an airfoil/turbine shape. Please check those out:

Sandeep,

What is the reason, or how do you think I can fix this type of error: Mesher failed to mesh topological edges?

I tried all possible geometrical topology and combinations but still facing this issue.

My model consists of airplane 's wing and two layers of skins on top of each other.

Thanks,

Bashir

Bashir,

Please see the Mesh troubleshooting section to debug the errors.

If you think nothing helps, attach your model and maybe Peter or someone else in the Forum can take a look at it and provide suggestions.

Sandeep

Hello Bashir,

Create a Workbench Project Archive .wbpz file and attach it to your reply if you want me to help. Also say what version of ANSYS you are using and if you have the limited Student license or a full license. Are you trying to perform a Static Structural analysis?

Regards,

Peter

Dear Peter,

Yes I need to perform static structural analysis. I use full research license V17.2. May I get your email address to share the model with you?

Thanks,

Bashir

Dear Bashir,

I limit public access to my email, so I don't put it in any posts on this public website.

Is the archive file larger than the 120 MB size limit for attachments? If so, you can post a link to a Google Drive or Dropbox archive where I can download your model.

Or do you need to limit public access to your model? If so, you can send me the link to a Google Drive archive by clicking the Reply link under one of my posts.  Paste the Google Drive link in that reply. It will be sent to my email inbox, and posted here. Then you can immediately delete the post, but I will still get the email.

Regards,

Peter
