Ultrasound inspection simulation using ansys

Just wondering whether Ansys has a toolbox to FE simulation and modelling of ultrasound wave propagation?

I used to work/research this, and normally in this field when using commercial FEA (ansys, abaqus), one would/could use very often an explicit solver.


So ansys explicit and abaqus explcit, no need to have a special toolbox. If you mean using piezo for the wave excitation yes, there are some for ansys, and one can also put command snippets. Then excite them wit ha burst voltage or whatever signal and run a transient simulation (not sure if piezo can be used with explicit solvers, but perhaps you can use the standard transient ansys solver/implicit).


Otherwise put on the signal solve the pzt/structure and obtain the forcing from the pzt, then obtain the force from the pzt on the structure, and use that as a force excitation in the explciit models (in this way one does not use the pzt in the explicit model, because I doubt that it is possible, might be though)

Hello rwath,

ANSYS has Acoustic analysis available. There are a few discussions on this site that have some relevance to Ultrasound and using the Acoustics tools in the software to do that.
