Hi All,

i have got 1/4" diameter screws that will positioned inside predrilled holes in steel (5/16" diameter holes). The screw will drill thru the wood.

1. What type of contact surface shall i use between screw and steel in Ansys Mechanical?

2. 1. What type of contact surface shall i use between screw and wood in Ansys Mechanical?

3.  i have about 50 screws. Is there a way to setup the contacts in group fashion instead of doing it individually

Regards,

Sam

Why not use bolt pretension?

Please see these 2 articles (Article 1 & Article 2)

This is a screw not a bolt. Under loading the piece of wood will slide and try to shear the screw at the interface between the wood and steel angles. The screw shank will bear against the hole surface in the wood and bear against the steel near the screw head.

Thanks,

Sam

Ok, I don't think it is a good idea to model all the screws with their threads. It would be computationally very expensive and hard to converge.

Have you looked at this video which talks about screw joints:

Sandeep: I don't have threads in my screws. Do you see any?
